Indian Trail - Day 14

Day 14 – Oct. 28

* The restaurant next to Super 8 was packed; therefore, went to the 7-11 next door and bought a donut for breakfast and tuna sandwich for lunch.

* Took the road to Los Angels. Went through Santa Monica Blvd, saw Hollywood sign and stopped at the Chinese Theater. There were many movie/TV characters around the theater and the Spider-Man scared me. (I was watching something and he was just in front of me when I turned around.) I had visited this area more than a decade ago, it has changed quite a lot.
It was interesting to see the Japanese puff cream shop, Beard Papa has the store in Kodak Theater.

* Through Rodeo Drive, headed to the Hacienda Hotel, where we started the tour.

* We drove 2478 miles through 5 states, 9 national parks.

* Had dinner with Mikes, Audrie and Jenni at a restaurant near the hotel and my journey was ended.

Indian Trail - Day 13

Day 13 – Oct. 27

* On the way to Las Vegas, asked Big Mike to stop by at the visitor center of Zion. Did final souvenir shopping.
Gooood.

* I did not done much research on Las Vegas, and had no idea where to go. Just walked around the strip and stopped by a couple of hotels including New York New York, Luxor, MGM Grand and Aladdin.
Starbucks was everywhere in Las Vegas. Sure, their business seems pretty successful.

* Limo tour with champagne and Big Mike's special pink drink (punch and vodka). I never rode on a limo before, this was somehow interesting. (Now, let me think... I never seen a limo on the street in Japan). Saw the Vega Vision in downtown, took a photo at Las Vegas sign, saw volcano and water fountain shows at Mirage and Bellagio, respectively. Walked through Caesar's Palace and came back to the hotel (Super 8).

Dinner: Buffet at Palace Station

Indian Trail - Day 12

Mx2700fg_20061215_193231_023

Day 12 – Oct. 26

* It was very windy all night, and I could not sleep very well. This may be the reason I got headache on the way to Zion National Park...

* Took Angeles Landing Trail. I only made it to the half of the trail, as the last half of the trail seemed just scary to climb up sheer cliff with the chain support. Audrey was brave enough to go to the very end.

* I was on dinner duty, came back to the camp a little early and cooked vegetable stir fry with rice and potato (kofuki imo).

* Tried to do my laundry, but the laundry room was closed at 21:00. Shoot!

* Enjoyed the last camp on the tour.

Indian Trail - Day 11

Mx2700fg_20061215_193231_018

Day 11 – Oct. 25

* My back, butt and knees still hurt from the horse back riding...

* Left the ranch and headed to Bryce Canyon. The sesame oil, I bought for the dinner tomorrow fell off the van, but the glass did not break. Amazing!

* By the time we reached to the park sign of Bryce Canyon National Park, it started snowing. While we were shooting the photo at the sign, it just got heavier. Big Mike decided to take shelter from the snow at the Ruby's Inn for an hour or so.

* The sun came back and we had lunch outside of Ruby's Inn (it was just cold!) and headed back to Bryce. It was windy, but the canyon was beautiful with snow.

* Took the trail down to the canyon from Sunset Point to Sunrise Point. It was unfortunate that Navaho Trail was closed and I could not go to the Wall Street. I personally liked Bryce rather Grand Canyon. Grand Canion is just too big.

* Camped at Kodachrome Basin State Park.

Chef of the night: Audrey and Jenni
Dinner: Sausage BBQ and mashed potato with gravy (U.K. style?)

Indian Trail - Day 10

Mx2700fg_20061215_193231_014

Day 10 – Oct. 24

* Enjoyed riding Bob and Sioux's little Rio in the morning and afternoon at Boulder Montain Ranch.
I did horse back riding a couple of times before, but never trotted; therefore, when Rio started to trot (or rather run) it was a bit scary. I felt my knees hurt after the ride. Everybody seemed the same way and we all walked as if we all have bow-legs.

Lunch: Taco

Dinner: Fried chicken, coleslaw, corn, mashed potato with gravy and stuffing.
The dinner reminded me of the thanksgiving dinner at the Wozniaks, my host family in Delaware while I was in college at Baltimore. It was also interesting learning that there is a different kinds of gravy. I never saw the white gravy before. Is gray (or brown) gravy an East coast thing?

Indian Trail - Day 9

Mx2700fg_20061215_193231_012

Day 9 – Oct. 23

* Through Goblin Valley State Park and Capitol Reef National Park, headed to Boulder Mountain Ranch.
Boulder Mountain Ranch is open to anybody, if you are thinking a nice, quiet and relaxed vacation
with horse back riding and the good American homemade meal in Utah, this place is recommended.

* Enjoyed the American meal by Sheri and Gary.

* Watched Forrest Gump and checked out the Route 160 scene.

* Stayed at the log cabin. I never seen that much stars with Milky Way!

Dinner: Stake, corn bread (It's been 10 years!), salad, baked potato and pinto (?) bean with chocolate cake.

Indian Trail - Day 8

Mx2700fg_20061215_193231_007

Day 8 – Oct. 22

* Free day at Moab. While some of the members went to Hummer tour, I explored the town, did some souvenir shopping and developed photos.

* Enjoyed nice and relaxed afternoon in the warm (or rather too strong) sunshine.

* Dinner picnic at Dead Horse Point State Park. Great view and peaceful sunset.

* Camped at Portal RV Park.

Breakfast: Big Mike's pancake and sausage
Dinner: Fried chicken, salad, chips and cheese cake

Indian Trail - Day 7

Mx2700fg_20061215_193231_001

Day 7 – Oct. 21

* Moved to Moab, Utah.

* Scenic drive through Arches National Park, hiked to the Double Arch and Delicate Arch. On the way to Delicate Arch, I took the wrong way, and ended up with showing up on the opposite side of the arch. There were some confusing rock cairns. If you plan to go to Delicate Arch, you may be taking a wrong trail if don't see other hikers coming back or around you. The sunset was just awesome.

* Had drink at a local bar in Moab.

Chef of the night: Annalisa and Francesco
Dinner: Mushroom source fettuccine, tomato bruschetta, lettuce salad with balsamic vinegar and charcoal grilled pork.

Indian Trail - Day 6

Mx2700fg_20061215_190212_015

Day 6 – Oct. 20

* Photo session at famous route 160, which often appears in the movie, e.g. Back to The Future

* Self guided and ranger tour at Mesa Verde National Park.
This was the highlight of my trip as I wanted to visit the park since when I did a homestay at the Nashlands in Colorado 12 years (!) ago. It is amazing to see how people built houses in the middle of the cliff.

* Helped Small Mike to cook the dinner.

* Camped at A & A Mesa Verde RV Park. Did my laundry.

Chef of the night: Small Mike and Miyuki
Dinner: Tomato and meat source pasta
Tent mate: Audrey
